5. Cookies And Online Tracking

What Are Cookies?

A typical Cookie is a small piece of data that a website stores in your device’s browser. It holds information that the site uses to function properly, remember your preferences, or personalize your experience. A Cookie may contain a Cookie ID, which is a unique string of characters used to identify your browser during the browsing session, or in some cases, during subsequent browsing sessions. Cookies, Cookie ID’s, and similar pieces of data may be considered Personal Information in some contexts.

Some Cookies are “Session Cookies,” which expire when you leave a site or close your browser. Other Cookies are “Persistent Cookies,” meaning they stay on your device for a longer period and across multiple browsing sessions.

Some Cookies are placed by the web domain you are visiting (“First Party Cookies”). Other Cookies may be placed by a web domain other than the one you are visiting (“Third Party Cookies”). For example, if a website incorporates social media features, the site may use Third Party Cookies placed by the social media platform. Some Third Party Cookies may be used to track your activity across different websites for advertising purposes.

How Does Column Five Media Use Cookies?

Our Service uses the following types of Cookies, which include both First Party Cookies (placed by our web domain) and Third Party Cookies (placed by a third party web domain):

  • Essential (Necessary) Cookies: These Cookies are necessary to secure our Service and make it function correctly.
  • Preference Cookies: These Cookies remember your preferences and various settings.
  • Analytics Cookies: Analytics Cookies allow us to analyze use of our website to evaluate and improve performance.
  • Marketing Cookies: These Cookies are used to support personalized advertising, and some may track activity across different websites and online services.

Some Cookies, including Third Party Cookies, and related business tools used on our Services are provided by our Service Providers or analytics, social media, and advertising partners, which include, but are not necessarily limited to:

How to Limit Cookies

You can block, disable or delete Cookies at any time by changing the settings in your browser. However, blocking, disabling, or deleting Cookies may limit your ability to view all the pages of our site or other sites.

You can find more information about Cookies at www.cookiesandyou.com/ and www.youronlinechoices.com.

“Do Not Track”

Your browser may offer a Do Not Track (DNT) setting. If you turn that setting on, your browser sends a signal to websites indicating that you don’t want to be tracked over time or across third-party sites. We don’t currently respond to these signals because there is not yet a common understanding of how to process them or a consensus on what “tracking” means.

6. Retention of Personal Information

We will retain your Personal Information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.  We will retain and use your Personal Information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

We will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our Service, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods.

7. Security of Personal Information

The security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site, which is not governed by our Privacy Policy. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Service is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 (“Children”).

We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from Children. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Child has provided us with Personal Information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Information from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

10. Data Subjects in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

Column Five Media, Inc. is a California corporation headquartered in Costa Mesa, California that does not have an office, employees, or other establishment in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any other country outside the United States (collectively, with EEA member countries, the “Other Countries”). While some of our clients are organizations that may do business in Other Countries, our Services are not targeted to natural persons in Other Countries and are not intended to monitor the behavior of natural persons in Other Countries. If you visit our Service or contact us, your Personal Information will be processed in the United States—which has neither sought nor received a finding of “adequacy” from the European Commission as referenced in Article 25 of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)—and will be handled in accordance with this Policy and applicable U.S. law, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing with you or with a client, vendor, or third party you are affiliated with.
