Fintech Explainer Videos That Made Compliance Worth Watching

Executive Summary: Hummingbird, the AML and financial crime compliance platform, needed to break through to an audience still doing most work manually. Communicating revolutionary fintech to a behind-the-times market demanded a fresh approach, so we built a series of animated explainer videos that show how the platform fights financial crime. These videos now anchor Hummingbird’s sales team, while custom assets expand the brand’s visual identity for ongoing fintech content across channels.

Hummingbird needed fintech storytelling that broke through a manual-process audience.

Hummingbird is a financial compliance platform that combines customer knowledge, case management, investigations, and regulatory reporting into a single platform. Their cutting-edge tech revolutionizes financial compliance, but Hummingbird was struggling to communicate that story to an audience that still does most work manually. We stepped in to create sleek, compelling explainer videos to educate viewers and generate excitement about the product.

 

The audience challenge was specific. Compliance teams at banks, fintechs, and money services businesses largely still work in spreadsheets, email chains, and paper trails. Most fintech vendor marketing assumes those buyers already understand the product category, but Hummingbird’s category was still being defined. The brief became: show, don’t tell. Animation gave us a vehicle to make a complex compliance platform legible in under two minutes.

For both videos, our storytelling challenge was two-fold. First, we needed to build suspense and tell an exciting story about what Hummingbird’s tech does to fight financial crime. Second, we needed to do it in a modern way to both differentiate from the competition and position the brand as a unique, forward-thinking company. To do this, we shaped human-centric stories around a tech-led solution.

 

The visual direction had to resist generic fintech tropes: abstract gradients, floating dashboards, stock-illustration people. Instead, we built an editorial-style animation system using halftone photography, financial-crime motifs (cash, hooded figures, code overlays), and direct visualization of investigator workflows. Original score by Michael Lee added pacing tension; voiceover from Carly Walde grounded the technical concepts in human stakes. Three explainer videos shipped, each tuned to a different stage of the buyer journey.

Sleek design is integral to Hummingbird’s DNA. Because so much FinTech marketing relies on numbers and abstract visuals, we made the brand stand out with a mixed media mosaic approach (inspired by their existing brand). This combined illustration, photography, and animation to create dynamic energy, allowing us to spotlight the product’s crime-fighting capability and emphasize how it streamlines the user experience.

These videos are now a core tool to help the Hummingbird sales team communicate the product in a quick and efficient way. Additionally, as we designed custom assets to expand their visual identity, the team is more empowered to create even more content to tell Hummingbird’s story across channels.

 

Beyond launch, the explainer series has become a reusable storytelling asset. The brand motifs, illustration system, and narrative beats developed in production now anchor sales decks, social cuts, and event presentations, letting Hummingbird tell a coherent story across every touchpoint.
