Change for Balance

Change for Balance is a production company dedicated to bringing positive change to the world through perceptive films and entertaining media content.

Having previously collaborated on a number of projects, they asked us to contribute to the documentary Love & Bananas, which follows a team of elephant rescuers on a daring 48-hour mission across Thailand to rescue a 70-year-old captive Asian elephant. For this film, they needed us to create a short animation that would provide some context about the plight of elephants and explain the differences between African and Asian elephants in a way that even a child could understand—a significant ask for a serious topic.

As it can be challenging to communicate this information simply and succinctly, we used every storytelling tool at our disposal (data visualization, design, voiceover, music, and a tight script) to produce a simple but effective 2-minute animation for the film. We’re proud to say the film’s Asian elephant experts said they’d never seen the topic broken down in a way that was so easy to understand. (We like to think that is a testament to the attention to detail and collaboration of both our teams.)

Since its release, the documentary has received several awards, including a Humane Society Genesis Award for Best Feature Documentary, as well as stellar reviews in high-profile publications and presentations in over 120 theaters in the U.S. and abroad.
